Anchorage is both a big city and a wilderness area. About half of the population of the state lives in the Anchorage Bowl area. The city limits exceed the boundaries of the State of Rhode Island. Moose, bear, Canadian Lynx, the occassional wolf and coyote are seen within these city limits.Bald eagles soar overhead.A King Salmon fishing derby is held each June on the banks of Ship Creek and the silvers arrive enmass in August. There aren't many major cities where you can go salmon fising on your lunch hour. Anchorage also abuts the Chugach State Forest, Chugach National Forest, Chugach State Park and Chugach National Park. Hiking trails abound - from novice to experienced. The views are awesome. IP: Logged |
