The Inn gets its name from its location on Lodge Alley, a street dating back to 1739. Located in the heart of Charleston's "French Quarter," it was used by merchants as a thruway to their warehouses and ships at the docks on East Bay Street. Today, more than 15 separate buildings, some dating to the early 18th century, make up the Lodge Alley Inn. In January the property's owners began a $5.5-million dollar renovation project to restore the suites and public areas to their former grandeur. The renovated suites take advantage of period architecture retaining original pine floors and brick walls. Bedrooms and living rooms are furnished with fine oriental rugs and 18th-century period reproductions.
