The Guinness Book of World Records is famous for its weird and wacky oddities of record. Now, the book comes to life at the Guinness World of Records Museum.
Located at 2780 Las Vegas Blvd. S. (next to Circus Circus), the museum features hands-on displays and life-size replicas of record holders and their individual feats. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, students and military, and $4 for children ages 5-12. Children under 4 are admitted free.
And while you're in Las Vegas, be sure to check out some of the records that have been set here:
* The most motorcyclists inside a 14-ft., 3-in. diameter steel sphere is five, all riding around a central person. The feat took place in the "Thunderdome" in November 1999. The "Riders of the Thunderdome" are now the final act in "Splash" at the Riviera Hotel & Casino, although they now limit the riders to four -- for obvious safety reasons.
* The Bellagio Hotel holds the record for the most fountains in a hotel with more than 1,000 on the 11.86-acre artificial lake out front. The fountains shoot water to a height of 243 feet, accompanied by a sound and light display.
* Cindy Jay of Las Vegas, a cocktail waitress at the time, won the largest slot jackpot ever paid out on Jan. 26, 2000. She hit "Megabucks" at the Desert Inn Casino for a cool $34,955,489!
